Customer Question

Please use the investigation findings to formulate a response to the best of your abilities. You can address your response to the Public Utility Commission.Public Utility Commission Complaint:Customer upset that ABC Energy is threatening to disconnect her services over a meter tampering issue she has been disputing due to the fact that she just purchased the home, and states that on March 3, Just Energy activated her services, and then on March 8, XYZ Energy checked her meter, and reported meter tampering. Customer says that she is single, and had no reason to tamper with meter. Customer says that she was told by ABC Energy to pay $495.00 to avoid suspension. Customer says that she is not going to pay for something she didn't do, yet was forced to pay half of the amount to avoid suspension, yet cannot reach ABC Energy, and now worried about possible suspension due to the extreme heat and has a new born in the home.Investigation Results (information needed to draft a response):• Account was enrolled with ABC Energy on March 2nd, 2012 via Priority Move-In transaction.
• April 2nd, 2012 ABC Energy received notification from the utility that the electric meter had been tampered with and invoiced the account with applicable tampering fees.
• April 13th, 2012 customer called ABC Energy to dispute tampering charges; ABC Energy asked her to provide documents to show when she took possession of the premise in question.
• ABC Energy received documentation from customer showing that she purchased the home in question effective March 1st, 2012.
• ABC Energy provided documentation to the utility company in efforts to show that our customer was not associated with the tampering incident.
• Utility responded to ABC Energy that our Move-in transaction was worked at 1:06pm on March 2nd, 2012. At 5:21pm they received a tamper alert and outage notification from the AMS (smart) meter at the premise in question indicating that the meter had been removed from its base connector.
• March 7th, 2012 utility sent a technician to the premise in question to check the meter; technician identified that the meter’s security ring seal had been compromised and noticed that a bypass wire had been placed inside the meter can. As such, photographs were taken and an affidavit was executed.
• Customer was advised to pay her bill amount in full ($495.00 including tampering charges) by an ABC Energy Representative in order to avoid disconnection of service.

Hello, my name is Greg.

Are you seeking resources to use as you prepare your own final response or for a newly written model?

Is there any additional information (rubrics, files, etc) that you can provide (if a file, you can upload using a file sharing site, such as, and then share the link here).

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
Hi Greg,Thank you for your reply. There are no other resources needed for this response. Basically, you are responding back to the Comission regarding customer's complaint. Your response should indicate why the customer is liable for full balance or why the customer should not pay the full balance. You have notes from investigation to help you prepare your response. Any questions, please let me know. Thank you
