Please keep the photo private if possible since that is the other vehicle involved. My daughter was driving the honda civic
If they were still driving it after the accident then it doesnt have a broken control arm. They need to get a second opinion for sure.

My daughter’s car had worse damage thankfully only bumper so again with both vehicles you have seen exterior damage the accident is minor and could not have damaged the opposite side suspension, correct? At worst the hit contributed to the problem being uncovered. The gti owner was told in a parked car any hit to wheel can damage any part of suspension
