Customer Question
I’ve got a crank no...
I’ve got a crank no start issue.
I have;
Replaced coolent censer
Replaced fuel pump relay
Replaced ignition switch
I have no power to the fuel pump, the FP relay is not tripping, and no power to the fuel pump fuse. I can manually trip the relay and make the FP run but the car still won’t start. There are no codes tripping so no help there. I have spark because it sputters on starting fluid. What would cause me not to get power to the fuel pump? When I manually trip the relay why won’t it start? Thanks

have you bothered checking any fuses?

Ask Your Own VW Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I have checked all related to the fuel system for continuity and all the ones I’ve checked check out.
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Only when I trip the relay. I have a relay that I took the cover off of and that’s how I’ve been tripping it. When I do this I here the pump run and of course I have power to fuse 28
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Do you have any more diagram. From the ECM to the relay would be helpful in possibly locating broken or burnt wires
VW Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 4 months ago

sure standby

I do ge a VERY SMALL READING at the pump harness while cranking. Very small. Any place I might pinpoint to check. I’m at my whits end
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
If I jump 17 to 20 I get 11.34 volts at the pump harness
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
To me it looks like my issue is above the relay but I’m no car mechanic and don’t know a hill of beans about electrical systems. I’ve been working on this issue about two weeks now. I don’t know where else to look

I have 11.7 at terminal 19
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Does it have to be reprogrammed or can I buy one from the junkyard
VW Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 4 months ago

it will need programmed

Ask Your Own VW Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Who can typically do that. Is it Costly
VW Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 4 months ago

you can get a preprogrammed one off of eBay or you can have the dealer do it. it is not cheap to have the dealer do it

Ask Your Own VW Question
VW Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 4 months ago

you will need to contact the seller, its not going to be preprogrammed because your vin is needed.

hows it going?

Ask Your Own VW Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Not too good I’m afraid. I’m still grounded. I need to go trough again and redo all the tests again before I spend a bunch of money on an ECM.
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
What would terminal 19 read with the ignition switch off
