This is a very rare case in fact it's the first for me. I can only think that there must be damage on the brass gear. This gear is on the crankshaft and one will have to strip the entire engine to repair or replace it. Other than that there is not something coming to mind here. I hope you find this information of value.

Hi,
If the camshaft flange bearing is worn on the flange end it will cause the camshaft to hammer as it run. That I have had that before and one will also have to strip the whole engine to replace the cam shaft bearings.
