My 2005 Touareg V10 starts in limp mode, goes up to 1100 RPM…

Customer Question
My 2005 Touareg V10...

My 2005 Touareg V10 starts in limp mode, goes up to 1100 RPM - when pressing accelerator, nothing happens. After 15 minutes, the idle drops to a normal level (about 600 RPM) and everything is fine. However, the display does not come on fully, for instance the gear selector does not indicate which gear is selected.

Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?

I assume you mean the transmission fluid - it was changed along with the filter about 2,000 KM ago. Brake light switch is working fine.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '05 VW?

Touareg V10 TDI

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Touareg yourself? What have you tried so far?

YEs, I'm doing it myself as the local VW dealer does not fix Touaregs. Checked and cleaned the ECU connections - no change.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Can't think of anything else.

Just ran a scan: 17026 -096, 18253-000, 17672-112, 18370-032, 18043-032. I cleared all but 17026 remains which seems to indicate low Sensor Reference Voltage A: circuit Low: P0642. I have earlier had this problem, changed the accelerator pedal, but it had no effect.

Hello I’m Wolfgang. I do need some more info please. I do need a pic of the options sticker that is located in the spare tire area and it’s a size of 3x5 with the vehicle serial # on it. Once I have that I can get the factory info to assist. Thanks

you could be right about the transmission fault - it shows up sometimes on the car's display, but then goes away again later. I have once had problems with the wheel speed sensors (well, I assume that it was the sensor as the speedometer needle went berserk), but that went away on its own - don't know if that's connected. Regarding the sticker I don't have anything but the VIN number I sent to you - I searched the entire spare wheel well, even took out the battery to check, but no options label. By the way, this one has air suspension tanks and 2nd battery in the well, the spare tyre is mounted outside.
