1990 golf gl, 1.8l, manual. when its too cold outside, it won't start. I turn the key and I can hear the fuel pump hum, but nothing happens. all dash lights come on and the radio, but nothing with the motor. I can push start it, but the key won't start it.
JA: Have you checked the fuses? The dashboard bulbs?
Customer: no bad fuses. I have replaced starter, ignition switch (twice), ignition control module, ground wires (from battery to frame to block)
JA: Are you fixing your GL yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: i am doing all work myself
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: i think that's it

Does this golf require you to push in the clutch pedal to crank the engine? or will the engine crank with or without you pushing in the clutch pedal? thanks.
