JA: Just to clarify, can you tell me which light it is? And does it blink first, then stay on steady?
Customer: check engine soon as i started it for customer it was flashing now it is runnin ruff
JA: What is the model/year of your VW?
Customer: 2009 wv passat 2.0

Customer: havnt tyried anything , car is on twest drive rite now tho

When the check engine light flashes that means there is a current misfire which usually means you have failed ignition coil. Next step is to check diagnostic codes and if gives a specific cylinder misfire code then next step is to swap that coil with another cylinder to see if misfire follows coil, if so this means coil needs to be replaced. I'd expect around a $250 job to have this done at a shop. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.
