When you operate the switch, do you hear a grinding as if the motor is running but the window is not moving? it's fairly common for the cables to break, and the window will not move. Does it drop the half inch it is supposed to when you unlock the doors or open the door?

ok- but when you press the button (driver or passenger door) can you hear a click, motor running inside the door, or grinding? press the "window down" for a little while, then open the door, and push down on the glass and see if it slides down now. If the cables are broken, then the window should slide up and down with hand pressure as long as the sliders are all the way down.
