Have smoke from exhaust, it's not anti-freeze the level

Customer Question

Have white smoke from exhaust, it's not anti-freeze the level hasn't changed. Oil level is good, and I checked brake fluid level which is good too. Read something about the transmission vacuum modulator may be allowing trans fluid to be sucked into the combustion chamber. any Ideas?
JA: When was the last time your transmission fluid was checked? Changed?
Customer: About 5 years ago by a transmission shop. And as you know, with out a dip stick I can't check it myself.
JA: What is the model/year of your VW?
Customer: 07 jetta with the 2.5
JA: What year is your Jetta?
Customer: 07
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: 07
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Just trying to understand the possible cause so if I can't fix it, I woun't it taken to the cleaners.

Have you smelled the exhaust to see if it smells like fuel, oil, coolant, or just a burnt smell?

And issues with transmission shifting harshly or slippage?

Has fuel mileage decreased any?
