I have a 2003 vw passat glx. The horn and steering wheel

Customer Question

I have a 2003 vw passat glx. The horn and steering wheel buttons aren't working. I've checked fuses and disconnect the home link. Saw that short out a lot

If it were just the steering wheel controls, I would suspect the steering wheel control module (large relay in the relay panel) but since the horn is out too I would suspect the spiral spring assembly.

What can I do to check those or repair the problem?
Expert:  gomi_otaku replied 2 years ago.

nothing you can do to repair it, you just replace it. Just to make sure, I would pull that steering control module from the relay panel and let it sit for a few hours, and then reconnect it, and test the functions.

How hard is it to replace the spiral spring assembly?

Which relay is the steering control
Expert:  gomi_otaku replied 2 years ago.

it is in the relay panel under the driver side dash- it takes up a space about twice the size of a normal relay
