Volkswagen Beetle: Putting a top on a 1975 VW Beetle. Pulled

Customer Question

Putting a top on a 1975 VW Beetle. Pulled it in the shop forward and reverse gears working fine. Went to move the car and it won't reverse, or even roll backwards. Will start to back up with reverse engaged and stops like you backed into a curb or the wheels are chocked. Does the same when trans is in neutral and try to push the car. Car will roll or drive forward.

Have you tried lifting the car and seeing if the wheels turn? The brake shoes in the rear could be grabbing due to some failure in the hardware, or broken retaining clips, etc, allowing the brakes to grab only in reverse.
