That is a tight sqeeze. The actual procedure does say to unbolt the torque strut and "pry" the engine and trans forward some to get the axle shaft out. (auto trans).
Remove bolts (arrows).
- Push engine/transmission assembly forward with pry bar.
- Remove axle shaft (Arrow points forward)

VerifiedRemove the three bolts holding the ball joint to the outer end of the lower control arm. Mark around them with magic marker first so you get them back in the same place when reinstalling, as they can be adjusted in/out and it will affect your steering wheel adjustment. When putting it back together, just finger tighten them, and turn the wheel left and right to shift the whole assembly until you get it in the right place to tighten fully.
there is a mount on the front of the engine, it is held down by a bolt from the top, and that will allow the engine/trans assembly to "rock" on the side motor mounts. You should be able to get it out without doing this however, if you have the suspension loosened on that side and can pivot the axle.
