VerifiedI would recommend you check the edges of the tires for cupping or uneven wear along the outer edges.
If the tires are fine then you may have a bad wheel bearing which is common in the rear for jettas. While the noise is happening turn the car hard from left to right to put load on the tires if you turn hard to the left and the noise gets worse then you have a bad wheel bearing on the right. You can also lift the rear of the car and spin the tires hard by hand put your ear up to the center of the wheel and compare the two sides. If it is a bad wheel bearing you will be able to hear a difference from one side to the other.
