1968 VW Karmann Ghia: air-cooled..jump..battery checked..generator

Resolved Question:

I own a 1968 VW Karmann Ghia with the 1500 cc air-cooled stock engine. The car will not start, but must be jump startaed. I had the battery checked out; it appears to be okay. I think the generator is not charging . Howc do I find out whether it is the generator or some other problem?

Is it completely dead no power?

Batteery is completely dead. I can jumpstart the car, drive 10 miles and still have a dead battery when I shut the engine down.

Ok it honestly sounds like the battery has dead cells which will not allow it to charge or hold a charge. The first step is to replace the battery with a new fully charged battery. If there is still an issue we will go from there but thats the first step.
