I just posted this then saw the year again, is this the newer body style 2005?
It's pretty easy, you need a 28mm socket for the axle nut, a 13mm socket, and a triple square set some axles use 8mm and some use 10mm you can get them at the autoparts store. These are triple squares http://www.matcotools.com/ProductImages/SQLM42.jpg
Remove the center cap and use a breaker bar to loosen the 28mm axle nut slightly, then loosen the lugnuts a bit, jack the car up on that side and put it on a jackstand.
Remove the wheel, remove the axle nut, and hit the axle with a punch in the center to start pushing the axle back out of the hub.
Remove the 6 triple square bolts on the inner axle flange at the transmission (be sure these are clean, if there's a bunch of dirt in there they will strip out).
Remove the three 13mm bolts that hold the lower control arm to the knuckle and you can now pull outward on the strut and knuckle and remove the axle.
Torque on the inner axle bolts is 60 newton meters and torque on the axle nut is

Most people just slam the outer axle nut on with an impact gun and it works fine if you don't have a torque wrench.

- Tighten again with:
- 50 Nm + 60 ° additional turn

Ok then those are the correct directions then (and there's more than just a first half which is why I specified, they made the MK4 body style wagon like yours until like 2007 and also in parts of Canada they make a Citi Golf that is the same body style as yours up until this day. VW is wierd like that).
One note since it's the right side, if you pull the three 13mm bolts then you need to make sure they're lined up with the marks where they originally were or it can throw the aligment off a tiny bit. Another option (but the whole front end has to be off the ground) is to pull the front 18mm control arm bolt, remove the 16mm sway bar link bolt from the control arm, and swing the whole arm away. This will leave you for sure not needing an alignment.
