VerifiedShavings in the transmission is always bad. I cant say for sure that the problems are caused by the accident. The only thing that would lead me to believe it is not accident involved is the leak. Was the leak present before the accident and if so how low was the transmission. I have seen alot of go through a wreck and the transmission comes out just fine but I know it doesn't take long to destroy a tranmission if the fluid is low. To really know what happened you would have to take it to a transmission shop that specializes in vw and have them tear the transmission down and find the cause of damage. if the damage was wear then it was because the fluid was low if the damage is physical to a gear, clutch, shaft or something else enteral then it was caused by the wreck. I would talk to the insurance company and share with them your feelings of how it instantly didn't work correctly and see what they will do about it. Most of the time they will do the right thnig and pay to have it replaced.
