What kind of oil should I put in a 2000 New Beetle Volkswagen 1.8L ?

VW recommends 5W-30 or 5W-40 for warmer cliements. I would recommend a syn oil, but it is not required. Syn oils are more expensive, but can handle the higher heat of a turbo engine much better than conventional oil
