VerifiedI remember the Jetta axle bolt to be 14mm allen, not sure. I know Passat is 17mm. The inner part of axle has six bolts holding to trans and also requires special tool. Tool is called "triple-square" bit, simialr to "torx" but different. You must use correct tool. Other than that, is easy, just pull lower control arm bolt which faces forward (16mm socket) and pivot arm and strut/knuckle out to provide clearance for axle to be removed. Note: axle bolt is very tight and should be loosened with tire/wheel on ground. Also should be retourqed in same manner and bolt is replaced, as torque-angle "stretch type" bolt. 90 Nm + 90.angle. Call shop and ask labor for straight replacement. May be cheaper than you buying the tools. Good luck, John.
