2000volkswagen: ignition switch(red/black..connector..hood..module…

The cars in the shop right now, if I get some ambition I'll slide by tommorow and have a peek..

I'm assuming this 'comfort control unit' is VW's version of a body controller. Sounds like it's under the drivers feet..? That sounds like a great place for water problems.

Is there some kind of diag I can do on this thing? Another tech in the shop already blasted a starter on, $500 and the poop has rolled down the hill inot my little corner. We seem to like to work on anything, but they won't get alldata / mitchell so I'm kind of hanging in the breeze so to speak on this one.

Even a connector pinout so I could at least verify power + ground would be a big help. Does this 'ccu' need to be programmed when installed, I'm sure if I head this way it'll be a used one, and I've seen very, very, very bad things happen on Dodge cars when used modules are swapped in, obviously I don't want to make things worse.

Well David,

You were close! The module and it's compartment were dry as a bone. BUT, at some point in the past some fly by night outift had done some 'modification' to the wiring harness that runs between the module and the dash under the carpet.

A few nice looking crimp-style connectors, coupled with half the other wires being pierced by a meter / test light made for some serious wiring trouble in the wet enviroment under the carpet.

All wiring correctly repaired, works like a charm. The biggest issue was the corroded out splice on the blue w/gray tracer wire.. It has something to do with the windows/starter as it kills both when disconnected.

In any event you got me close enough to get it fixed, and get the boss of my back.
