Do you have any fault lights or messages on the dashboard? If so then plugging in a scan tool should be the next step as this will greatly speed up the diagnosis
but I'd agree with the original tech that replacing the oil is a good 1st step
I'm assuming the reason for 16 ltrs of oil is to allow him to fill, and drain the unit 3 times? as this is being quite thorough as you can never get all of the old oil out in 1 go as theres' always a few litres trapped inside the torque converter
so you do a few oil changes ( 2 is normal) to dilute what is trapped and cannot be drained with fresh
also check all the electrical connections of the transmission, remove each connector in turn and spray with contact cleaner. Check that the wiring to the unit is in good condition with no chafing or frayed wire
