Alarm system service light has come on. Sunroof doesn't

Customer Question

Alarm system service light has come on. Sunroof doesn't work. Alarm still works. What could be the issue?
JA: Do you have the trouble code? Do you have a code reader or scan tool?
Customer: No. I don't work on cars, just drive them.
JA: Not a problem. You can work with the Volvo Mechanic to figure that out. What is the model/year of your Volvo?
Customer: 2005 xc90 2.5t
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I locked and unlocked the car three times and got the sunroof to work to open and close the sunroof, but a second attempt to open the sunroof and it stopped working leaving the sunroof half way open. A second attempt got the sunroof closed.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: I was able to get the alarm to go off today. It has only gone off once randomly about two weeks ago.

Master reset Procedure

1- Disconnect Battery Cables ( Negative & Positive Cables )

2- Hold cables Together for 20 secs ,then let go

3- Wait 10 minutes

4- Make sure all doors are closed

5- Reconnect battery Cables

6- Lock & unlock the vehicles using the key from driver door side (if you have a key fob with no blade key, just lock & unlock using the key fob buttons)

7- Enter the vehicle and attempt to start

try that and let me know

what we need a is a diagnostic scan and retreive fault codes from anti theft module

but lets try this for now

Please let me know

Thank You

If I need a diagnostic scan, than don't I need to go to the dealership??
