My steering wheel gets into a locked position and my car

Customer Question

My steering wheel gets into a locked position and my car won't start. Volvo S 70, 1998.
JA: Does the engine turn over? How old is the battery?
Customer: No, it does not. Battery is about 3 years old.
JA: What is the model of your '98 Volvo?
Customer: S70
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Trying to unlock the steering wheel by turning it left to right and vice versa and sometimes it will click into position and the car will start.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: At times the key will move around in the ignition but car won't start- like key will be slipping.
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Volvo Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Welcome, I'm Chris (aka Moose).

I am saying sorry for the delay as a blanket response for all others online today that passed on helping on this concern. I just go in recently and caught up and am now checking on the long waiting customers first. Do you still need help?

Is it standard to be billed the remainder funds and not get your question answered?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I need help and that is why I paid for an answer to my question and I am surprised by the question asking if I still need help. My question has not even been addressed.

We are not allowed to discuss the billing process since techs are just users of the site like customers. For concerns on that, you have to speak with customer service or read the terms of service.

Just to make sure, when this happens you cannot turn the key until you turn the steering wheel with some effort? If that is the case then your locking the steering wheel by accident and causing this. Parking and shutting off with the wheels turned or while during a turn can do this. Entering and exiting the vehicle using the steering wheel as a grab handle to do so with the key off can cause this. It is best to drive at least 3 foot with the front wheels straight in D or R prior to shutting the car off and do not touch the steering wheel getting in or out of the seat.

Hello again Chris here,

I am contacting you because the post has not been closed or rated. We have 7 days to get a post rated before it times out. When a post times out, that means its no longer on my active list (if you reply I never know it.) You have already paid the fees to get this question answered, but it appears your not pleased, or need more help.

Let me help some more. Is there anything else you feel I could offer so you would be pleased with my help. I have the option to call you if that would be better.

Thanks Chris
