Customer Question

Friend just had over $2,000 repairs--cam gear, solenoid adjuster, timing belt idler....
Less than 24 hours later, car died completely. Was told overheated due to bad fluids, radiator split, and car declared DOA. Could there be no connection and a mechanic wouldn't know there was a problem? Seems fishy to me. 2000 Volvo S40.

I am sorry your having this problem

they said it overheated due to bad fluids in the engine ?

have you contacted the place that did the work ?

wasn't the coolant checked at the original shop ?

Different expert here. There is a possibility that this is due to sloppy work by the shop or unrelated coincidence, but in order to help, I need to know exactly what was replaced. If possible, scan the work order to your computer and upload here using the paperclip icon on the reply box toolbar.
This is the best way for me to see if there is any correlation at all between work done and this failure in the cooling system
