Yes, it can be done at home, IF you are up for a challenge.

You will need to lower the sub frame down and hold the engine up at the same time.

I would recommend that you do not attempt at home unless you have a lift.

If you would like further instructions let me know.

Can you outline the proceedure? I have access to a lift.

Expert:  Michael replied 8 years ago.

You will want to remove the bolt at the u-joint of the steering coupler inside the car.

Remove the wheels and remove the outer tie rods.

Support the engine.
Unbolt the steering rack. 4 studs and 1 bolt.

Remove the front engine mount. Two 17 mm bolts to the sub frame.

Support the sub frame. Remove the 2 rear bolts and loosen the 2 front.
*Volvo recommends new sub frame bolts*

Lower the sub frame slowly.

Take note of the line routing and remove.

The rack should be loose. Lift it off the sub frame.
You will want to pull it out the drivers side. Twist it slightly for clearance.

Line up your tie rods as close as possible and reverse for install.

I am not quite sure were the U-joint on the steering coupler is?

Expert:  Michael replied 8 years ago.
It is at the very bottom of the steering column.
You will need to pull up the black rubber seal.
