Have just bought a new 511A Canon Battery through our reputable camera shop......however my 30D will not switch on.

Technician's Assistant: Are there any flashing lights, symbols, or messages on your camera or display screen?

No

Technician's Assistant: Have you tried removing and replacing the battery and/or SD card?

Yes

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

I don't think so....the camera is completely dead.

As a photography I high school teacher, I had one of my students insert the Compact Flash card flipped/opposite into one of our Canon 30Ds. He used such force that the card became stuck and we had to use tweezers to remove the card (He also unfortunately did not follow directions I had announced). Unfortunately, after pulling out the incorrectly placed Compact Flash card, one of the gold prongs was bent and broke off. Although we can still insert the compact flash card, and close the door to the CF placement, the camera is reading a CF ERROR code. I'm guessing it is because one of the gold prongs inside is broken off. Since this is a 30D, I know there is no trade-in value and its an old and somewhat obsolete camera (although they still sell for up to $90 plus on Ebay). I really do not want to attempt to have this camera serviced since I think the value of repair would go beyond the value of replacement. I actually thought about ordering the part that needs to be replaced and attempt to DIY it. What would you suggest since this Photo One class is a part of poor underfunded private high school and the school does not have the budget to purchase cameras. This camera happened to be one of my old cameras I purchased 10 years ago and was using as a demonstration camera. … read more
