I have a Nikon...

I have a Nikon Coolpix P510 and when I switch it on I have an error message "Lens Error" the zoom it right out and will not go in. I have removed and then replaced the battery but that didn't help. Thank you in advance, Francine

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any damage to your camera recently (e.g. from dropping or from dirt getting in the lens)?

No I have not dropped it, and I always keep the lens cap on and inside the camera bag. The camera is always stored in my office. I use the camera for my work, I have not been on holiday (no sand, or dirt that I know of)

Technician's Assistant: What kind of battery does your camera use? Have you tried taking out the battery and replacing it?

Yes I have tried taking the battery out, its the original Nikon Lithium ion Battery pack

Can you remove the battery please then hold the shutter button down for 60 seconds then release.
Wait 5 minutes, put the battery back in and try to turn it on.

Hi Richard, Thank you, ***** ***** done as you suggested but unfortunately it still comes up with "Lens Error" and the zoom is still stuck out.

We will try to get the Lens Assembly gears or Lens drive motor to release if this is the cause of the issue.

To do this, get something that vibrates such as an electric razor or Electric Toothbrush and turn the camera upside down and put it on this.

Once done, power the camera on and off up to 10 times to see if it releases and the Lens moves, removing the error.

It is the internal drive motor that has seized, this now confirms it

Thank you for your help, The warranty is out of date, do you have an idea how much it would cost to have put right?

It is cost prohibitive sorry, unless it is under warranty, for this model it would cost more then the value of the camera sorry.
