PowerShot SX540HS purchased new...

PowerShot SX540HS purchased new in late December, 2017 was accidentally dropped on March 4, 2018. Retracting lens feature when turning on camera will not work. Message on screen is "Lens error. Will shut down automatically. Restart camera." No visible damage on body or lens housing. Does Canon have a repair service? (Canadian customer)

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any damage to your camera recently (e.g. from dropping or from dirt getting in the lens)?

As stated in my message, the camera was dropped, from waist height onto a hard floor.

Technician's Assistant: What kind of battery does your camera use? Have you tried taking out the battery and replacing it?

Battery pack NB-6LH sold as part of the new camera.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

Nothing other than how do I get a repair?

I'm sorry to hear about the problem. It's an unfortunate fact that such Lens Error cases don't usually turn out very well, and most usually they require sending the camera to a repair facility, or else replacing the camera.

Canon Canada does indeed have a repair service - more below about that.

When a camera has been dropped, sending it to repair is indeed appropriate - other defects aside from lens error, may be in need of fixing as a consequence.

Canon Canada's repair services may be engaged here:

https://repair.canon.ca/euo/home.htm

by filling in first, the camera's model #, then the serial # off your camera, then the date of purchase.

And submitting that data, and going through the process.
