Customer Question
I was making a...

I was making a video with my Sony 4K AX100 and I accidentally pulled the sd card out of the camera without turning it off. I have it on my desktop of my computer but it says Quick Time Player can't open it. I put the chip back in my camera and there is nothing. Is there anything I can do to recover this video.

Technician's Assistant: Who makes your camera?

Sony 4K AX100

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your 4K?

I have tried to open the sd card on my computer and it says Quick Time Player can't open it.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

I don't think so.

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is***** will do my best to provide the right answer to your video file question.

I'm sorry to say that it does sound as if the video file just wasn't written to the memory card, prior to its being removed suddenly.

( But there is a trifle of hope, perhaps, if you clicked on a file on the card, as viewed by your computer, and got an error message. Please tell me the name of that file, and its File Type as revealed by its File Info (or if on a Windows computer, by its right-click Properties) ? )

I'm not sure what you are saying. I am not a big computer person. I imported the chip to the desktop. Usually you can see the picture when it is imported. Instead it is a design of video tape with a Q in the middle and MPEG4. Outside that shows the name C0001 3.MP4. When I click on that, there is no error, just a statement saying Quick Time Player can't open C001 3.MP4.

Sorry, I cannot afford any more money. And it looks like I ruined the video of our Xmas play, they wanted me to take.

Thank you - you may ignore the solicitation for additional services (and with them, charges). I did not send that message to you, the website system did. (And I have no control over such messages.)

What computer have you imported the MPEG4 file onto, please? An Apple computer?

I need this information to advise you.

Customer reply replied 6 months ago
it is an apple.
Camera and Video Technician: Russell H., Service Tech replied 6 months ago

Try using something other than QuickTime to open the file, I suggest.

If you are uncertain what choices you have, tell me whether your Apple computer has Sierra on it, or High Sierra, or some other version of MAC OS X, please.

Mac OS High Sierra, 10.13.2

Would there be a way to recover it on the video camera.
Camera and Video Technician: Russell H., Service Tech replied 6 months ago

No, more likely to be recoverable on the computer.

Try this: Control-click the file in Finder.

Then choose Open With

Then choose (if you see them there) either

VLC Media Player

or

Elmedia.

If neither is present, you can get Elmedia from here, onto your computer, then use it:

https://mac.eltima.com/elmedia-player-download.html

I could get the Elmedia, but when I did it, the Elmedia design came up. But when I hit play, nothing happened.
Camera and Video Technician: Russell H., Service Tech replied 6 months ago

Then try VLC Media Player, please:

It says the item is either locked or damaged and can't open.
Camera and Video Technician: Russell H., Service Tech replied 6 months ago

Try this in VLC Media Player, to try to repair the file:

- go to Media,

then select Convert or Save

- Next, add input files or streams (the MPEG4 file you need to repair), and then press

Convert or Save

- In the Convert window that appears, provide the file name for the destination file (save in a different file name! so as to not overwrite the file you have, in case you still may need it.)

- Next, select the desired input Codec from the profile list. (MP4 most likely.)

- And, press Start

If that does not work, try this repair tool on the MPEG4 file:

I opened up VLC. I can drag it into media library but there is nowhere I can see where you can select convert or save
Camera and Video Technician: Russell H., Service Tech replied 6 months ago

First 'Media', in VLC, then 'Convert or Save'... are those two choices present in your VLC player?

Ask Your Own Camera and Video Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
When I pull up VLC, the work media is only to the left saying Media Library and there is nowhere that says convert or save.
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I've tried this a number of ways and I give up. Thanks anyway.
Camera and Video Technician: Russell H., Service Tech replied 6 months ago

I'm sorry to hear that... it seems the file is lost irretrievably, then... provided you also tried the recovery utility at http://download.stellarinfo.com/StellarPhoenixVideoRepair.dmg.zip?_ga=2.136769328.1828459479.1516584283-296667333.1516584283
