I have a Canon T3i. I was trying to use my 18-55mm lens

Customer Question
I have a Canon...

I have a Canon T3i . I was trying to use my 18-55mm lens today and when I press my shutter down my camera will not take the picture . I see a glowing green dot in the bottom right in my viewfinder . I don’t know what’s wrong . I switched to my 75-300 mm lens and it worked fine so I just shot with that . Is my lens broken ?

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any damage to your camera recently (e.g. from dropping or from dirt getting in the lens)?

No , not that I’m aware of .

Technician's Assistant: What kind of battery does your camera use? Have you tried taking out the battery and replacing it?

I took the battery out and used the little rocket tool to clean in there . I put the battery back in and was still having the same problem .

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

My camera usually beeps when it’s focusing and ready to take the picture . Now that I’m having this issue I’m not hearing a beep , it’s more like a click .

Hi. My name is*****'m a camera repair technician with almost 30 years in the business and I'll be glad to help you with your question today.

At least you know the problem is in the lens and not the camera body. Unfortunately, there are several things that can go wrong with a lens like this and all of them will require troubleshooting and repair by an experienced camera repairman. You may want to check locally for a camera repair shop in your area, or, if you need assistance finding a shop, please let me know and I'll locate one for you.
