I own a number...

I own a number of Coolpix cameras viz P610 and P7100. Both have features that allow to choose a heavy Megabyte picture. However, any image taken and irrespective of its size has a 300dpi result. Any printing of digital images is based on 300dpi. Anything less will result in a poor colour being printed. So what is the advantage of choosing say 1M or a 16M setting?
