My PowerShot D30 stopped...

My PowerShot D30 stopped working yesterday, while I was hiking in the Mt. Victoria area of the Blue Mountains near Sydney, Australia. When I turn it on, it says "Insufficient space on card.

Technician's Assistant: How old is your PowerShot?

About 5 years old. The card is 16 GB, and I have no digital photos or videos on it. I tried changing the card; same error message.

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your PowerShot?

I transferred all images, videos from the card and deleted them from the card. I tried a different card. No joy.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

I used the camera while snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef a few days before it stopped working. All seemed well, as it did work for the first part of my hike yesterday.

Initially and to avoid asking you to do something you've already tried, can you please tell me what / any and all troubleshooting / specific steps you've already attempted other than / to address the above.
