I have a D7100...

I have a D7100. there is an icon on the info display that no one can identify. It is a black rectangular box with two white arrows pointing to each other. What does it represent? Thank you.

Technician's Assistant: Are you experiencing the same issue in different shooting modes, or just one?

The icon shows up on the info display no matter what the shooting mode.

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any damage to your camera recently (e.g. from dropping it or getting it wet)?

No.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

I have the back button set to auto focus, but the icon remains even if I go back to AE-AF lock. The icon is to the right of the metering mode in the info display.

NO, the D7100 is not connected to anything.the icon on the camera is just to the right of the meter indicator mode in the back display screen. It does not show up anyplace else.
