I have a new Sony camera RX1RII. When I push the AEL button to lock exposure in A shooting mode, the screen shows the * indicating locked exposure but when I release the button the * disappears from the screen and the locked exposure is released causing the exposure to change as the camera position is moved. On my Sony camera RXI the exposure is locked until the picture is taken which is the case for all other cameras I have owned. I suspect my new RX1RII has a defect.

Technician's Assistant: Are you experiencing the same issue in different shooting modes, or just one?

I will check.

Technician's Assistant: Has there been any damage to your camera recently (e.g. from dropping it or getting it wet)?

Same issue exists in other modes. Camera is brand new and never dropped or damaged. Camera has never been exposed to water. I have many cameras and am very careful with them. The RX1 I have had for years is in mint condition as is the new RX1RII. Thanks

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?

I think that addresses the issue well. The question whether the exposure should lock when the AEL button is depressed and released and stays locked until the picture is taken.

There is a separate AEL setting in your menu that adjust when the exposure is locked. In one of these modes, the exposure is locked when the shutter is pressed halfway. In the other mode, the exposure is locked when you press the button.

There are three different ways to set this function. Auto, on, and off. I believe the sitting you were looking for would be off.
