I have a Lumix...

I have a Lumix DMC-ZS40 that I like very much. Somehow I accidentally put it into a mode different from what I want. The screen has a set of parenthesis and inside that are two vertical lines and outside the parenthesis is an artificial yellow horizon. How do I get out? Is there a manual reset. I just want plain vanilla.

Technician's Assistant: What's the make/model of your camera? How old is it?

Panasonic DMC-ZZS40. About 3 years old.

Technician's Assistant: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?

I have no idea how I got the camera into this mode. Just want point and shoot mode. I tried looking for something in "set up" but did not see anything.

Hi there and welcome

Can you do the following please

Disconnect the 'DC IN' cable from the camera.
Hold down the 'Initial Set' button.
Reconnect the power adapter using the 'DC IN' jack while holding down the 'Initial Set' button. Release the 'Initial Set' button after 5 seconds. (The reset could take up to 180 seconds)
When the 'Status' indicator changes to green, the process is completed and the camera had a Factory Default Reset.

Then tell me how it functions please

You can do it another way via the menu on the screen, go to Setup, then choose Reset Setup Parameters

Page 71 shows you this here

The help I have received so far has been of NO help. Richard said to hold down the initial reset button. THERE IS NO INITIAL RESET BUTTON.
He then said to go to page 71 of the manual. I when to the "Set Up" menu, selected Reset,Clicked on Yes. There is no change in the screen. It is exactly the way I described it in my first message yesterday. Zero progress so far!

I think I reset the camera but the original problem is still there - on the screen there is a parenthesis, inside the parenthesis, two vertical lines and outside the parenthesis, a yellow dashed line which acts as an artificial horizon. So no progress in ixing the problem.

If you copy the photo to the computer, the line is not shown on the computer's version of the photo correct?

I loaded the photo on the computer. All the lines show up on the photo. Imade the phot of the screen and the camera was pointed toward my laptop. I have to go to work now.

I do not think you reset the camera

Follow the instructions to do the reset

I am certain when it is reset this stops.
