the camera icon is in the My Computer -- I just don't have the app the activates the downloading of the recent pictures

I think your computer can recognized the camera hardware, With the help of the mouse/touch pad please do a right click on the top of the camera icon and you will be able to see list of properties. In that properties you may see many list of option, in that search for Open in new windows or Click Open.

by clicking on the icon of the camera I can then browse then work down to my card I can see the pictures BUT I don't know whish ones are allready in my computer

I understand, if you have already imported the photos in the computer by default it might have stored in the Picture folder. Can you please check and tell me whether do you see the old photos in that folder or not?
