I put a new battery in my sp 720 but all I get is a purple

I put a new battery in my sp 720 but all I get is a purple screen or static and lit wont even turn off
JA: What's the make/model of your camera? How old is it?
Customer: about 4 years olf it an sp 720 uz
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: none really none of the buttons seem to work
JA: Anything else you want the Camera Expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: cant even get it to turn off

Try a hard reset:

Remove the battery, memory card (if installed) and disconnect any usb cables. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds . Allow the camera to sit idle for 30 minutes. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Reinstall the battery without the memory card and try to power on. If there is no response, plug in the USB cable and connect the camera to the computer and note any activity.
