On 3 July 2017...

On 3 July 2017 I purchased from Panasnic a camcorder model HC-W580. I received it on 12 July 2017. Today, for the first time, I started to use it and ,unfortunately, I found that one of its connections (A/V Connector) is not working properly. When connected to a TV or DVD recorder you hear the sound with a loud background noise and you do not see the video at all. I tried this with a couple composite video cables, a new one and a second one I have been using with a Sony camera.

Technician's Assistant: Did you download all the necessary software to connect your camera to your computer (e.g. Canon EOS Utility)? Is your software the latest version?

What software are you talking about? I am not trying to connect the camera to a computer but to a TV or a DVD recorder?

Technician's Assistant: The Camera Technician will be able to walk you through that. If you are using a USB cable, are you using the one that came with your camera or an aftermarket one?

I am not using a USB cable, I am using composite video cables and all I get is sound with a lot of background noise and no video at all. The camera did not came with this cable, I purchased one and also used another I had.

Having tried several cables, I would say that your Panasonic camcorder does indeed have a problem on its video output, whether it is circuitry defect or a defect in that connector.

If you were using only one cable, I would guess - only a guess - that the Ground or Shield connection on the cable was not good. But I don't think that's the problem.

Your camera is defective - if it is soon enough to return it, pack it up and return it to the store or vendor, reporting it as defective to them promptly by phone before packing it up and taking it there. Be sure to have your sales slip, to prove date of purchase. Ask for an exchange for another of that model (or a model of equivalent capabilities and value), since this one is defective from manufacturer.
