I have a D7000 with a Nikkor 18 to 200 DX lens. When I turn

Customer Question

I have a D7000 with a Nikkor 18 to 200 DX lens. When I turn the camera on, the mirror in the camera jumps slightly 4 times. It makes a sound and I can see it jump while looking through the viewfinder. After it does the 4 jumps, everything works fine. When I switch to another lens (a Nikon 55 to 300) it does not do this jumping when I turn it on.
JA: What's the make and model of your tv, and has turning it on been a problem in the past?
Customer: not a tv - a D7000 Nikon camera
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Nothing happened - it just showed up one day. I did clean the contacts with alcohol but it did not help.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is***** will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

I think the problem might be with that lens, and it might be a problem with actuating it to a response. That may require retries, which may also involve the mirror twitching too.

You cleaned the contacts on the lens assembly in question, the Nikkor 18-200 DX lens, I presume. It did not change that oddity. Therefore there is something minor wrong inside the Nikkor 18-200 DX lens. It might get worse with time, so watch out for that, and always have another lens along when going on any important 'shoot' with the camera.

How old is the Nikkor 18-200 DX lens assembly? if less than a year old still, measured from date of purchase, this might be a good time to put in a failed-within-warranty claim on it before the warranty expires.

Is it repairable if I were to send it to a Nikon repair company?
Expert:  Russell H. replied 4 months ago.

Yes... it most probably is indeed repairable. Nikon Repair may be engaged through this web page:

https://www.nikonusa.com/en/service-and-support/service-and-repair.page

where the yellow Schedule A Repair button will allow you to start the repair process.

Note also that Nikon Authorized shops can be located, that might be near you, if you would prefer to take the camera in yourself... just let me know what your local zip code is, and I will locate those near to you and their contact information.
