Ihave a panosonic lumix DMC-ZS15 camera with a new battery

Customer Question

Hello. Ihave a panosonic lumix DMC-ZS15 camera with a new battery fully charged, & new memory card which initially works for 15 seconds including taking and storing pictures, but then suddenly loses power & gives me a system error (O.I.S.). Is there a way to reset this to make the camera work?
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Panosonic DMC-ZS15 Lumix camera about 4 years old??
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Not sure it was a gift, but I've tried to reset set up but not sure if I did it correctly. The problem developed after I recharged the battery
JA: Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: The camera is in good shape with the lens extending well.

There is a factory reset option in the settings menu that you can try.

If that doesn't work then there may a problem with the lens mechanism even though it appears to be extending well.

This can happen if power was interrupted when the lens was extending or if the lens got a knock, or if some dirt or grit is stuck in the lens mechanism.
