I have a Canon EOS Rebel camera (2004); I got a new printer

Customer Question

I have a Canon EOS Rebel camera (2004); I got a new printer over a year ago that did not have the slot for the flash disk to down load my photos to my computer. I have been trying for over a year to try & down load my photos using the cord to the USB port & cannot get it to operate. I got a new computer tower almost two years ago & all the stuff on the installation disk is on my computer. How can I download my photos from my camera to my computer?
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: I got the camera in 2003 or 04; Model is 300D digital
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Re installing the disk that came with the camera; going to my control panel & seeing if the trouble shooting or help gives me instruction. They refer me to the internet, but I always got dead ended, so I thought I would try you.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: Can I get my software updated from the internet today so I can download the 8 GB disk that is full? When I got my new computer, I got switched over to Picasa 3 from the 2004 version of Photo Shop that I use to use. Do I need to buy a new Photo Shop to be compatible with my Canon Rebel 300D?

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Try this:

1. connect the camera to the computer.

2. wait 30 seconds or longer

3. go to

and look for the camera there... it may show up as a camera icon, it may show up as a disk drive icon, probably with a distinctive and odd name, maybe with 'Canon' in it, maybe not.

If you think what you see might be the camera, either double-click on it, or better, just tell me what the name of the icon that might be the camera is... and I will advise you further.
