Thank you, I have a power shot SX10IS and the lens will not

Customer Question

Thank you, ***** ***** a power shot SX10IS and the lens will not retract, even after turning the camera off and on ? I believe I moved it while trying a close shot at a red fox on my lawn.
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Canon power shot SX10IS about 4 years old
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: The only thing I have found in the manual is 'turn the camera off then on again' I was shooting a fox then tried to get a closer shot. it is out to400mm
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: no other problems love this camera

Hi there and welcome
Can you remove the battery please then hold the shutter button down for 60 seconds then release.
Wait 5 minutes, put the battery back in and try to turn it on.
Tell me please if it now starts correctly
Thank you
