Customer Question wife shoots a eos rebel 3ti camera and had a package when I first purchased it for her. Since I have purchased ef 24-105 and ef 70-300. I would like to upgrade her this year on the camera end because she has taken such an interest in this hobby. I think the 3ti is an 18 mp camera and would like to get her a higher mp camera. I get worried if a purchase a 23 mp camera she if it is really that much better. I see they make a 50 mp camera but wonder if the lenses I have will not get the full effect of the camera..any help or recomendations

The Canon Rebel 3Ti EF lenses will work with pretty much any other Canon DSLRs with sub-frame sensors - e.g. XS, Rebel XSi, Rebel T1i, T2i, T3, EOS 50D, 60D, and EOS 7D).

You are correct that there is not much difference between 18MP and 23MP in terms of quality - the main benefits she might get in a new 23MP camera are better functions on the camera itself, rather than more detail on the photograph.

If you want a really serious 50MP camera then you would be looking for the EOS 5DS or similar:

if she were really enjoying this, I would hate to purchase a camera for 1800 when a camera for 2800 offers a 50 mp picture and are these lenses she already owns capable of taking a picture worthy of a 50 mp camera

Yes, I agree it would definitely be worth going for double the MP for just an extra $1000.

Yes, the EF lenses she already owns are compatible with other Canon DSLR cameras including the 50MP camera.
