JA: What's the make/model of your camera? How old is it?
Customer: Canon 5d, and canon 5d mkiv. My other speedlights work fine on both. This particular light works but doesn't operate correctly in slave. I can serva as a master on camera flash but I need it to slave.
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Don't know
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?

Hi, I'm Pete. Welcome to JustAnswer! I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply ASAP.

Expert:  Pete replied 8 months ago.

Approximately how old is the Speedlight?

Expert:  Pete replied 8 months ago.

What method are you using to set it?

1. Press and hold zoom for about 3 seconds to get into setting mode.
2. Rotate the wheel clockwise two notches to select SLAVE (flashing)
3. Don't forget to press the Set button.

Let me know if that works?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
The flash unit is about 8 years old. I have three and I use them with the ST-E2 speedlight transmitter. When this one would not communicate I was able to use it on camera as a master light to fire the others. The light is stuck on a setting that says ratio A:B. I should be able to set it as a slave in either the A or B group.

I tried using your instructions b/t/w. No difference.
I am under the impression I will need to send it to a repair facility. I was looking for one when I found the JustAnswer website.

Are you still working on this?

Please opt out

Sorry for the delay, I was offline for a while. Are you looking for details of a repair facility?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
No, I can choose on myself. I wanted a remedy to the problem if one existed here. I have used Canon repair services before. Having used these lights for years I detected the problem without finding an answer in the manual. Apparently the only fix is as I suspected by returning the unit for repair.
Expert:  Pete replied 8 months ago.

To remedy the problem yourself will require specialist equipment and training. Have you worked on or repaired Speedlights previously?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
No. I will send it to an authorized Canon repair facility

Ok, let me know if you need anything else at all.

Best,

Pete.
