My Sony DCR SR47 keeps giving me a message that says "HDD

Customer Question

My Sony DCR SR47 keeps giving me a message that says "HDD Area Full. Cannot record movies.
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact make and model of your machine?
Customer: It's a DCR-SR47 Hard Disk Drive camera. I purchased it in 2009
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I had downloaded some extensive clips from a City Council meeting. Everything seemed to be working just fine. But two weeks later when I set up the camera at the next Council meeting it seemed to work fine for a while and then it stopped recording and the "HAD Area Full..." message began flashing.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No. I think that's about it

The most likely cause is that the Hard drive is fragmented (that can happen with usage). You need to backup all the video to your computer and then format the camera harddrive (page 37 of the manual). Let me know if you still have problem.
