Customer Question

I have a S-8200 Finepix and am currently vacationing in Vietnam. While in my hotel in Hue a few days ago, the extension cord that I used for my computer had the ground wire cut. Since then I have not been able to upload photos to Windows photo gallery. I have tried the camera on 2 other computers without success uploading.
What I get is error message stating that USB device has malfuntioned and the computer does not recognize this device.
Could the USB on the camera been affected by the cut ground wire? I have replaced the USB cable from camera to computer and still get the error message.
Shoud I try buying a cable to connect from the HD port on camera to the computer, or if not, what should I do?

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

I'm concerned about your obviously thoughtfully put question.
If the USB error message persists, I have to question whether something has been overlooked.

- How did the cutting of the ground wire (out of the 4 in the USB cable) occur?

- Have you check the USB port on the computer, to make sure it is not dirty/dusty/occluded? one of the four active terminals in any USB port being dirty, can make the port inoperative.
