Customer Question

I have a Canon 40D and a Flash, 320EX. I dont use the flash very often.
I wanted to use the flash in taking a portrait shot. The flash would not flash when I hit the shutter. I checked batteries by hitting the LED light button & the light came on.
Why cant I get the flasf to work?
