Hi Joan,
My name is***** will try my best to help you with your question.

Does the lens appear to be stuck, and it will not extend or allow the camera to turn on?

If so, there may be some sand or grit stuck in the lens mechanism.

You can try a few gentle taps to help dislodge any particles that may be stuck in the lens mechanism.

If that doesn't work, then the camera will need to be cleansed professionally by a camera repair tech.

Hi Joan, can you post your question here please?

Customer: replied 12 months ago.
No - now the lens will not open at all. I did tap it and nothing happened.I was told originally I could send the camera to you for a free estimate for repair. Is that true? If so, where would I send it? What do you think the minimum amount would be for any repair.? Maybe I should just get a new one.Joan

Hi Joan,

You can send the camera to Nikon for a free estimate for repair. You can arrange the return at:

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/service-and-support/service-and-repair.page

I estimate a repair is likely to cost between $75-100.

A local camera repair tech may be able to fix it for around $50 if you can find one in your area.

Thanks for trying. I guess buying a new camera is the answer rather than an expensive repair.I guess you will be charging me the regular price for our conversation?Joan

Hi Joan,

I'm not sure what price you chose to pay when you asked your question, however a portion is paid to me and the remainder is kept by the website.

Best,

Pete.
