Customer: I have a Sony HandyCam DCR-HC26. The LCD screen is not working
JA: How long has this been going on?
Customer: Over a year.
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: None

How old is the Handycam in question? measured from its original date of purchase?

What sort of onset for the problem was there, or did it happen quite suddenly?

It's on going problem. I would say its atleast 5-7 years old from its original day of purchase.

Not sure what happened or when the LCD screen stopped working. I just noticed it today when I was trying to view old family videos

Is the LCD screen blank and dark, or white and otherwise blank? or some other form of 'not working', please?

It is not blank or dark. When I turn on the Camcorder, it displays on the screen to set up the date and time. When I press on the screen to adjust the date and time nothing happens. As if's it is not registering my touch.

Therefore, I can not rewind or play any tapes on this camcorder, because it just doesn't register my touch when I press onto the screen

But, is it the case, that the touch-screen functions are all 'dead' or unresponsive?

That may eventually require repair-servicing.

But one thing can be tried:

Try removing the batteries, and leaving the camera on a (dry, non-humid, non-dusty) shelf for overnight. Then put the batteries back in and try the camera again.
