Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

The situation must be quite frustrating to you, and I hope to find a solution for it.

Obviously, you have tried a USB cable, and it has not done the uploading. But the first question is: Is the camera being recognized by the computer ?

And, in short: at what point does the process fail? it does not start up? or it does not finish? or anywhere in between.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
when I try uploading the video in corel capture mode an error comes up that says "either no video capture driver is installed or no device is connected. I have tried several different cables but get the same error. I successfully uploaded many videos previously on a different system when using firewire connection but this system only has USB

if I click on the link below can I talk with you via phone?

At the moment I cannot talk to you on the phone, unfortunately.

Try connecting the camera (with a USB cable) to a USB port that you have not tried yet, on the computer.

Then, go to

and then open the 'Computer' or 'ThisPC' window, and look to see if there is a camera device shown there, first of all, in the listing shown of your computer's drives and devices.

no camera device shows up
Expert:  Russell H. replied 11 months ago.

That is not a good sign, I'm sorry to say.

When did the camcorder last connect to a computer successfully, please?

How old is the Sony camcorder in question?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
The cam corder is probably almost 8 years old and the system used successfully with it Is just as old.
Expert:  Russell H. replied 11 months ago.

How long ago did the camcorder work (through a Firewire connection) with the old system? months ago, or days ago?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I uploadedvideo successfully with this camcorder within the last four years but not with this PC
Expert:  Russell H. replied 11 months ago.

Please, just tell me how long ago was the last time the camcorder uploaded video? Thanks.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
4 years ago but on a different PC.
Expert:  Russell H. replied 11 months ago.

Thank you for your response with the information I requested.

...That was when using Firewire. The Firewire port on your 8 year old camcorder might still be working, but at present the USB connector is not. (I am assuming that the camcorder has both connector types, though I have not looked up its specs to make sure... please correct me if I'm wrong.)

There are, I think, a few possible solutions here:

- to get a Firewire adapter for your computer. A plug-in card, or a USB adapter-to-Firewire that you just need to plug in to a USB port, or something of that sort (depending on your computer.) And see if the camcorder works with that.

- or, to try to install a USB driver on your computer (if you haven't already tried that. Have you?)

- also possibly helpful: to test your USB port(s) with a different USB device. (Have you done such a test?)

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
the usb ports all work well with other devices. the pc I am using now is not the same one I successfuly used to upload several year ago.
Expert:  Russell H. replied 11 months ago.

So it wasn't a previous PC, but this current PC, that you did the upload on successfully.

Let me guess: has the PC been upgraded to Windows 10 since then?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
NO. this is not the pc used to upload prevous videos, it is a different one and will not recognize the camera. This system has not been upgraded to 10. let's just close this session. Tell me, am I going to be charged for this chat session and how do I cancel my membership?
Expert:  Russell H. replied 11 months ago.

I advise that you install a USB driver, and/or software, for this camcorder model.

If you like I can try to locate that software and point you toward a source for it.

If you wish to cancel your membership, I cannot do that for you, and must refer you to Customer Support at

You will not be charged for this chat session if you abandon it now, I don't think.
