Hi, thank you for contacting JustAnswer.com. My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Does anything ever appear on the screen when you try to induce LiveView? or is the screen in question always blank, even when pressing Menu? or after having taken a picture, what shows up?

Do pictures come out, or are they blank/black ?

How old is the camera? in months or years since you bought it.

Has the camera been dropped or otherwise subjected to mechanical shock(s) in its lifetime?

Has the camera been operated in or subjected to, temperatures below 32 degrees F (freezing point) or above about 100 degrees F ?

Has it ever been subjected to a humidity higher than 85 % or gotten wet ?

Has the camera been operated in a gritty or sandy environment, such as a beach, a seaside, a construction site, or the like?

The camera seem to work fine for taking still photos except for not being able to get live view. I cannot get live view when I switch to video. So I cannot take video. The camera is about 2 years old.

Live View should work for still photos also.

Please see if Live View button does anything in still-photo-taking mode.

?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No it does not do anything in still-photo-taking mode.

Perhaps you may have a 'dead button' on your camera then.

How long has it been like this?

Expert:  Russell H. replied 1 year ago.

If the button is dead, if it never does anything or affects anything, then (short of turning Live View to On in your camera's settings and menus, which might possibly be do-able) Live View is there but inaccessible.

If the button always was dead, since near when you bought the camera, it is a manufacturer's defect, but the warranty has expired unfortunately. So repair to the button would cost you something, if you sent this to Nikon Repair (unless, of course, they saw it as still a warranty-covered problem. I doubt they would, but it is possible...)

Nikon Repair is here:

(and lower down on the page, you can click through to a facility for nearest-Authorized-Servicing locations.)

It turns out that the Live View Button was turned off in the menu settings.

Good. Then the Live View function indeed could be turned On in the settings, as I said,

"short of turning Live View to On in your camera's settings and menus, which might possibly be do-able"...

I'm glad the problem did not require repairs.

If this completes the case, and if you feel my work on this problem deserves a rating, please rate my answer. Thanks.
